- Publisher Reed Kimbrough was born in Selma, Alabama on February 27, 1951. As a U.S. Army dependent, Kimbrough spent the majority of his formative years between West Germany and the United States. Kimbrough graduated high school in Fort Knox, Kentucky and received his B.A. degree in business administration from Eastern Kentucky University. He served in the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division and rose to the rank of captain. Kimbrough retired from the U.S. Army Reserves as a major. Kimbrough joined the news circulation department of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He was promoted to the production department where he managed building services, shipping, receiving, packaging, distribution and management-level employee development. As the director of Diversity Programs and Community Relations, he led volunteer and charitable fundraising initiatives and managed employee training at the newspaper. He served as the deputy director for the Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Child Support Services.
