- Actress Armelia McQueen was born on January 6, 1952 in Southern Pines, North Carolina. She was raised in Brooklyn, New York. She attended New York City's Central Commercial High School where she graduated in 1964. McQueen went on to briefly enroll at the Fashion Industry School, majoring in fashion design. Later, in 1972, she attended Herbert Berghoff Drama School where she received acting lessons. McQueen's acting career began when she was hired for a role in the production of Hot & Cold Heroes. In 1976, she was hired for the role of Tune Ann in the film I> Sparkle. In 1978, she made her Broadway debut in the original production of Ain't Misbehavin' where she won a Theatre World Award for Best Debut Performance. McQueen was featured in various sitcoms and films throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including: Action Jackson (1988); Ghost (1990); Bulworth (1998) and Life (1999).
