- Fashion designer Leonard Davis was born on March 12, 1953, in Washington, D.C. Davis graduated from Calvin Coolidge High School in 1970, and earned his M.A. degree in fashion design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City in 1973. Davis attended L'Ecole de la Chamber Syndicale De La Couture Parisienne in Paris, France, where he earned his Couture Design degree in 1975. Davis has designed for many 7th Avenue fashion houses including Willi Wear, Josephine Chaus, Liz Claiborne, Adrianna Papell, Donnkenney, QVC, Home Shopping Network, Chico's, and Tarzana International. An avid collector of Black Americana and author of two books on black collectables, Davis has written articles on collecting for magazines and newspapers and has appeared with his collection on Antiques Road Show, Treasures in Your Home, NY1 and ABC's Evening News. Items from the Davis collection were featured in Spike Lee's movie, Bamboozled.
