Summary
Urologist Dr. Walter Ivey Delph, Jr. was born on March 25, 1944, in Harlem, New York. Delph was the son of Minette Tillman and Dr. Walter Ivey Delph, Sr., a real estate entrepreneur and family doctor. Delph's father financed and built the Ivey Delph Apartments in Harlem. Ivy Delph tenants included Marilyn Keets, Buck Clayton, and Ted Sturgis. As a youth, Delph grew up around people like Duke Ellington, Thurgood Marshall and Jackie Robinson. Delph attended Dalton Elementary and graduated from Riverdale High School in 1962. Delph earned his B.A. degree at Adelphi University in 1966 and his M.D. degree at Howard University Medical School in 1970. He completed his residency at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx. Delph was the director of urology at North General Hospital in New York. He married Aminta Griffith in 2003, and they had three children: Andrea, Walter III, and Channing.
