- Journalist Jacqueline E. Trescott was born in 1947 in Jersey City, New Jersey. Her parents, Alfred P. and Adelaide C. Miller Trescott, enjoyed music, reading, and attending Broadway performances. Receiving her B.A. degree in journalism from St. Bonaventure in 1968, Trescott joined The Washington Star as a staff reporter June 1970. A very active member of the Maynard Institute for Journalism Education in the 1970s and 1980s, she served as director and instructor at the Summer Program for Minority Journalists in 1982 and 1984. From 1976 to 2012, Trescott worked for The Washington Post, reporting for its award-winning Style Section. In 1997, with Post reporter James V. Grimaldi, Trescott was a finalist in the Freedom of Information Act Award category of the Investigative Reporters and Editors national contest for their series of stories on the Smithsonian Institution. Trescott interviewed musical and literary personalities: Toni Morrison, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Chita Rivera, Denzel Washington, Oprah Winfrey and Alice Walker.
