- Lawyer and corporate executive Angela Vallot was born on November 8, 1956 in Abbeville, Louisiana. She earned her B.A. degree from Mills College in 1977, and her J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1980. From 1985 to 1997, Vallot practiced law at the law firms of Jones Day, and Arent Fox. She served on President Bill Clinton's transition team in 1992 and as acting director of the Office of White House Liaison. Vallot joined Texaco, Inc. in 1997, as the company's first chief diversity officer, following a $176 million racial discrimination lawsuit. At Texaco, Vallot created the Office of Corporate Diversity Initiatives, and chaired its Corporate Diversity Council. In 2001, Vallot joined Colgate-Palmolive as chief diversity officer, leaving in 2003 to found VallotKarp Consulting. Vallot served on several corporate boards, including the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Dance Theater of Harlem, Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, and Sentinel Group Mutual Funds.
