Summary
De naam Klaas Gubbels is synoniem aan de Koffiepot, maar ooit was dit anders. Voor 1990 was dit de Tafel. Thom Mercuur kwam in 1992 in de catalogus "Koffiepot - Klaas Gubbels" tot de conclusie dat de Koffiepot de "centrale plaats" heeft overgenomen. Maar de tafel is nooit ver weg. Als een geduldig toneelattribuut blijft ze soms tussen de coulissen en dan weer claimde ze even die centrale plaats op het toneel, zoals in de tentoonstelling met gelijknamige catalogus "Les Tables Sauvage", de wilde tafels, bij Livingstone gallery in 2007. Naar aanleiding van de vijfentachtigste verjaardag van Klaas Gubbels kijken we terug op de rol van de Tafel in zijn oeuvre en maken we een kunsthistorische tour langs prominenten uit de Nederlandse kunstgeschiedenis op zoek naar het "waarom" van de tafel
