- Subject
- Genre/Form
- Poems – 1868.
- Parodies.
- Note
- Verse in sixteen numbered stanzas; first line: "'Twas near that town of great renown, Old Rondout is its name."
- Last line: "My name is J.B. J--s!"
- The poem describes the negative environmental impact of the Hudson River Railroad, completed in 1851, and implies that John B. Jervis, the chief engineer of that railroad, regretted its construction. References to Jervis being an old man, and to Rondout and the Walkill River, suggest that it was written and issued in 1868 in opposition to plans for the Newburgh and Wallkill Valley Railroad.
