Nach und nach fasste sodann das Automobil in der Armee langsam Fuß. Der Ausbruch des (Ersten) Weltkrieges sollte den Bedarf an Kraftfahrzeugen geradezu schlagartig enorm steigern. Die Beiträge der vier Autoren umspannen in einem weiten Themenbogen nicht nur die Entwicklung des Kraftfahrwesens in den beiden letzten Jahrzehnten der österreichisch-ungarischen Armee. Die prägenden Persönlichkeiten werden ebenso vorgestellt wie die Geschichten der führenden Automobilfabriken der Donaumonarchie oder die vielfältigen Auswirkungen der Wirtschaftsblockade gegen die Mittelmächte. Ein Handbuch über Automobilismus ist jedoch ohne Bilder nicht vorstellbar. • The motorisation of the k.u.k. Army began in the last days of 1897: With an automobile borrowed from the German company Daimler. Gradually, the automobile gradually gained a foothold in the army. The outbreak of the (First) World War was to suddenly increase the demand for motor vehicles enormously. The contributions of the four authors cover not only the development of motor vehicles in the last two decades of the Austro-Hungarian army in a wide range of topics. The formative personalities are presented as well as the stories of the leading automobile factories of the Danube monarchy or the diverse effects of the economic blockade against the Central Powers. However, a handbook about automobiles is inconceivable without pictures. More than 200 carefully selected photos were therefore taken to illustrate the individual chapters of this book.
