- Summary
- An original and eclectic artist, an abstract, informal painter, inventor of provocative solutions, but also performer, promoter of events, Gianni Bertini (1922-2010) was one of the protagonists of the art of the second half of the twentieth century. The scientific work that led to the publication of Bertini's catalogue raisonné is the result of a multi-year investigation, in agreement between the Gianni Bertini Archive, established at the Galleria Frittelli Arte in Florence, and the Gianni Bertini Association in Milan. The volume, trilingual (It-En-Fr), consists of two volumes: the first, accompanied by 96 color plates and numerous small images, is a monographic study intended to reinterpret the artist's entire career. The opening essay by Francesco Tedeschi spans the whole of Bertini's work, bringing out its stylistic features and connections with the international context in which the Pisan artist worked, reflecting his eclectic creativity. There follow a detailed study by Kevin McManus of the experience of Mec Art and its evolutions, an original reading of Bertini's extra-pictorial activity by Federica Boragina, and an in-depth biographical note on the artist by Myrna Galli. The second volume, in full color, is the actual catalogue of some 2400 selected works, arranged in twelve critical categories, completed by historical-critical notes and an anthological selection of the artist's writings, as well as a substantial apparatus in the appendix--OCLC.
