- Summary
- Collection consists of portraits and views of the activities of Baptist minister and civic leader, Charles D. Walker, mainly from 1960s to the late 1980s. Depictions of Walker before the 1960s are very limited; his personal life is not depicted. The collection consists of studio portraits of Walker; group portraits showing Walker with United States Senator Lowell Weicker and with local college faculty; candid shots of Pastor Walker at his church, the First Baptist Church, Milford, Connecticut (1963); views of Walker participating in religious services and public gatherings (1970s); and being interviewed at South Central Community College, New Haven, Conn. (1987).
- Of note are studio portraits of Walker upon entering the Hampton Institute ROTC program (1920) and as a young man (1923). Also included are views of speakers, crowds and the parade at the Black Founding Fathers Day celebration in New Haven (1976); and a view of Dadd's Hotel, a Black-owned hotel that served Black travelers in West Haven, Connecticut (1930s).

- Biography (note)
- Charles D. Walker, 1903-1989, was a Baptist minister and civic leader. Born in Triboro, North Carolina, and raised in Hampton, Virginia, Walker held a variety of jobs before becoming a Baptist minister in 1958. Between the 1920s and the 1950s, Walker worked as a butler; a real estate manager of Harlem, New York, properties; an aircraft firm employee; and, as a writer, had some of his work published by the New York Herald Tribune in 1923. In 1960, Walker became pastor of the First Baptist Church in Milford, Conn., where, until his retirement in 1980, he was a civil rights activist and local civic leader. Walker died in Milford in 1989.

- Charles D. Walker, 1903-1989, was a Baptist minister and civic leader. Born in Triboro, North Carolina, and raised in Hampton, Virginia, Walker held a variety of jobs before becoming a Baptist minister in 1958.
