Summary
Depictions of prominent African Americans and persons of African descent from various fields in New York City during the 1980s. Collection consists of candid shots and views of musicians, actors, civic leaders, writers, activists, visual artists and dancers, who are depicted at events that include forums, speeches, receptions, public gatherings, musical performances, and dance company performances. Among the individuals depicted are artists Benny Andrews and Ademola Olugebefola, actor Ossie Davis, civic leader Basil Patterson, music performers Betty Carter and Sun Ra, writer/activist Amiri Baraka, and the Chuck Davis Dance Company.
