Summary
Depictions of the social life of African Americans in New York City and of African people, and stylized views of architectural forms and streets, from the late 1970s to the early 1980s, consisting of candid shots and views of individuals, mainly children and teenagers, socializing outdoors; views of structural forms; views of objects in vacant lots; street views of signage and posters; and views of activities that include parades, swimming, and outdoor religious gatherings.

Biography (note)
  • Jules Allen was born in 1947 in San Francisco, where he studied photography, as well as clinical psychology, in college. Moving to New York City in the late-1970s, he pursued freelance photography and studied for a Masters in fine arts photography at Hunter College with Roy DeCarava. He is currently a tenured professor, teaching photography at Queensborough Community College.

Jules Allen was born in 1947 in San Francisco, where he studied photography, as well as clinical psychology, in college.
