- Summary
- Andris Kursietis has been a researcher of military history for almost fifty years, using resources that span the globe. This latest book, "Senior Generals and Admirals of the Austro-Hungarian Army and Navy, 1914 - 1918" contains the biographies of 189 officers who served with Rangklasse III or higher during World War I. This count includes several foreign officers who held honorary rank in the Austro-Hungarian armed forces. Over 100 years have passed since the end of World War I, and many of the officers covered in this book have faded into historical oblivion. The author hopes that this book will help to remind historians about their existence and their role in commanding one of the largest armed forces in action during the conflict. An estimated 7,800,000 soldiers served in the Austro-Hungarian army between 1914 and 1918, yet it required only 180 or so senior officers to command them. They are all in their final resting places, but their stories will hopefully live on. -- (from back cover)
