- Die österreichische liberalische Gesetzgebung der späten 1860er Jahre legitimierte nationale Auseinandersetzungen. In gemischtsprachigen Regionen Cisleithaniens konstituierten sich bürgerliche Initiativen und Vereine, die durch ihre enge einbindung an zentrale Politik bald zu einflussreichen lokalen Akteuren des Nationalitätskonflikts wurden. Die Studie nimmt die deutsch-tscheischen Auseinandersetzungen näher in den Blick. Vor dem Hintergrund des Demokratisierungsprozesses und der sozialen Frage vergleicht sie die Positionen der konkurrierenden Vereinstrukturen im Schulwesen sowie ihre breiten gesellschafts- und staatspolitischen Verflechtungen."--

German and Czech school associations were constituted and soon became influential actors with close connections to central politics. This study examines the school system debate and compares the activities of associations against the backdrop of democratization and the social question."--
