Biography (note)
  • C. Daniel Dawson, born in 1944 and raised in Newark, New Jersey, is a photographer, filmmaker, curator and educator. During the 1960s, he studied photography with Paul Caponigro, Ralph Attersley and Lizette Modal, and later joined the Kamoinge Workshop in 1970. Dawson has worked as a photo editor, still photographer and cameraman for commercial and scholarly publications and films; has had his work published in books; and had his worked exhibited, primarily in the New York-area. He has held a curatorial position at the Studio Museum in Harlem, and curatorial consultant postions for the Museum of African Art and Lincoln Center's La Casita (both in New York), as well as teaching positions at Columbia, Yale and New York Universities.
