Summary
Depictions of Rev. Jesse Jackson's presidential campaign for the Democratic Party nomination in 1988, consisting of candid shots and views of Jackson appearing at political rallies, delivering speeches, on a campaign bus with advisors and aides, visiting the homes of private individuals, with director Spike Lee during a campaign commercial film shoot, and meeting other political figures and celebrities. Also included are views of supporters at campaign rallies, as well as a candid shot of a homeless woman holding a handwritten message supporting Jackson. Among the individuals depicted with Jackson are businessman Donald Trump, boxing promoter Don King, and Vice President George Bush and wife Barbara.

  • Terry Gydesen is a Minneapolis, Minnesota, based freelance photographer, whose work documenting political campaigns began in 1988 when she was hired by presidential candidate Jesse Jackson. She has also documented the life of Minnesota political activist Paul Wellstone, which was published as the book "Twelve Years and Thirteen Days" (2003); musician Prince's 1993 European tour, published as "Prince Presents the Sacrifice of Victor" (1994); and a project capturing the lives of Minnesota's retired seniors residing in Florida and Arizona during the winter season, called "Snowbirds." She has also worked for clients including Target and the Girl Scouts, and published in such journals as the New York Times, Newsweek and the Washington Post.
