- Summary
- Depictions of South Africa under apartheid, 1973 to 1985, and during the country's first free election, 1994, consisting of candid shots and views of black township residents; black laborers, service workers and domestic help; young children, mainly school children; white residents in their daily routines; political campaign workers and supporters; voters and poll workers at polling stations; and election celebrations. Also depicted are views of living and social conditions in Soweto township, notably the area Pimville (1973), and Orange Farm township (1994). Depictions of the 1994 election consist mainly of views of African National Congress (ANC) supporters; black, white and Asian citizens lining up or casting their votes at polling stations, and views of ANC supporters celebrating their party's victory. Also depicted are ANC leader Nelson Mandela, Mandela's daughter, Zinzi, and ANC President Oliver Tambo in the Hague, Netherlands.
