- Summary
- Depictions primarily of persons of African descent, probably in New York City, during the 1960s, consisting of candid shots of men, women and young children, mainly outdoors; and views of street life, children playing, a costumed dancer, a woman begging outside a store, demolished structures, children's tricycles, an abstracted form, and a defaced advertisement.

- Most photographs bear photographer's signature on recto; one item bears photographer's signature and handwritten address on verso. Two items have printed caption labels attached to verso. Two items are mounted back to back on paper mount, with handwritten captions. One image is mounted to cover of Portfolio No. 2. All other images are loose and are not attached or bound to scrapbook covers.
- Cover of Portfolio No. 1 is loose; cover of Portfolio No. 2 is bound and has tie strings.

- The Kamoinge Workshop was formed in 1963 in response to the under-representation of Black photographers in the art world. Their goal was to support the work and artistic development of their members. Each photographer established their own style, with great attention being given to highlighting the beauty of everyday blackness. Kamoinge is the longest continuously running non-profit group in the history of photography.
