Summary
Depictions of housing, social life, educational and social services, and changing neighborhood demographics in New York City from the early 1960s, showing primarily white and African American residents living in featured communities. Images consist of candid shots and group portraits of men, women and children, in particular younger children, seniors, and families; and views of teachers and students in classrooms, children and young people in leisure activities, social gatherings and health services for seniors, gardening activities, living conditions for families, and outdoor events. Though most images were unidentified, images that bear recognizable landmarks or have captions are identified as neighborhoods in the Bronx, Lower Manhattan, and a part of Queens.
