Depictions of everyday life and events of African Americans in Harlem, New York, as well as portraits of a prominent African American artist, from 1972 to 1983, that includes portraits and views of artist Romare Bearden in his art studio; views of friends and neighbors gathered on the street; street gamblers playing craps; a saxophonist and a group of children sitting outside a comic book store; a group of women in hats on Easter Sunday; social gatherings; a silhouetted group of men; a construction worker laying out wood pieces; a small girl sitting in a library reading room; and a young boy viewing an assembled police motorcycle brigade.

Biography (note)
  • Frank Stewart, born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1949, is an African American fine art photographer and photojournalist. Raised primarily in Chicago where he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, Stewart later received his BFA in photography from Cooper Union in New York City (1975). He is noted for his images of jazz musicians, his association with artist Romare Bearden, and his work done at the invitation of Cuban government (1977) and the Los Angeles Olympic Committee (1984). He has served as artist-in-residence at different institutions, curated various photographic exhibitions, and has edited or had work published in photographic monographs. Stewart is also a member of Kamoinge, Inc., the New York black photographers collective, and is senior staff photographer for Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Frank Stewart, born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1949, is an African American fine art photographer and photojournalist.
