- Scrapbook compiled by Mark Marvin of clippings and reviews about the 1946 production of the play On Whitman Avenue, written by Maxine Wood, directed by Margo Jones, sets and costume design by Donald Oenslager, and produced by Canada Lee and Mark Marvin. This was the first Broadway play produced by an African American. Reviews include both the out-of-town town and Broadway openings. The Broadway production ran at the Cort Theatre (New York, N.Y.) from May 8, 1946 through Sep 14, 1946. The production starred Canada Lee, with Will Geer, Perry Wilson, Ernestine Barrier, Abbie Mitchell, Philip Clarke, and Vivian Baber.
