- Summary
- Depictions of dancers, musicians, and some productions of Les Ballets Nègres from the mid-1940s to the early 1950s. The collection consists of two undated studio portraits of the company's co-founder Berto Pasuka that include his portrayal of a voodoo priest in the production "Blood"; publicity photographs from the productions "Cabaret-1920" and "They Came" (ca. 1946), the latter featuring Pasuka, other company co-founder Richie Riley and Vivienne Snow; a group portrait of the African Orchestra who performed on the original music composed for the company (1946); and an undated group portrait of the cast of "De Prophet."
- Also included are an undated view of the dance company visiting a printing shop, possibly in Birmingham, England; and a group portrait of the company at the airport in West Berlin, Germany (1952).

- Les Ballets Nègres (1946-1953) was the first Black dance company in Great Britain. It was co-founded in London by Jamaican dancers Berto Pasuka and Richie Riley, with Pasuka serving as the company's director and choreographer. The company produced ballet drawing from African and Caribbean folk traditions, and featured African drumming, often incorporated into the music composed by Leonard Salzedo. The company consisted of dancers from the West Indies, Africa, England and the United States. Due to fiscal mismanagement, Les Ballets Nègres gradually dissolved by 1953.
