Summary

The book is devoted to the study of the role of natural light in modern architecture. The issue is presented through a theoretical model of the interior space of architectural objects illuminated by natural light--a so-called 'light space.' The proposed model changes conventional methodological approaches to design and engages the emotional component of perception of architecture in the designing process. Like the term 'space' defined the material the architect worked with throughout the 20th century, the term 'light space' defines a phenomenon that denotes a new area of study of the properties of architectural objects today. The book analyzes the evolution of views on the role of natural light in architecture, describes the theoretical model that reveals the content of the term 'light space', and classifies design techniques based on the use of natural light.
