  • Based on the 1859 performances at the Paris Théâtre-Lyrique, for which Berlioz remodelled 'la partition franc̨aise [that is, the 1774 version] d'après celle de l'édition italienne [1762 version]'. The resulting 'mélange' is based largely on the 1774 edition, but with the role of Orpheus restored to an alto, and following the Italian score for Act 2, Scene 1. The Postlude from the Italian version is included in an appendix.
