Summary
Collection primarily depicts Harris's activities as a health educator in New York City, possibly in the late 1980s to 1991, consisting of group portraits showing Harris with friends and colleagues, and views of Harris teaching classes that are probably related to his work with the Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC). Also included are a candid shot of Harris with two attendees to a C.A.R.E. presentation (1990); views of Harris's gravesite and his AIDS memorial quilt (1991); a graduation portrait of a youth; and a publicity portrait of an unidentified woman singer (1957).

Biography (note)
  • Craig G. Harris, 1958-1991, was a gay African American writer, poet, AIDS activist and health educator. He notably co-founded and chaired the National Minority AIDS Council in 1987; was executive-director of the Minority Task Force on AIDS in New York in 1988; and became a consultant and educator for the Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC) where he remained actively affiliated until his HIV-related death in 1991. During the 1980s, Harris was also a prominent Black gay writer and journalist, published in several journals and literary anthologies.
