Summary
When his mother can no longer afford to take care of him Jeremy is placed in an orphanage. Things become worse when the orphanage catches fire and the children are placed in the homes of the town's people. Jeremy grows attached to his foster family and is sad to learn that all the children will be adopted except for him. His sadness fades when he is reunited with his mother.
