Summary
  • The work of Theo Kurpershoek (1914-1998) is loved by connoisseurs, private collectors and artists and is included in various museum collections. Kurpershoek is best known as the designer of Querido's Salamander series in the 1950s, but he has done much more. He was a virtuoso graphic artist. He was co-founder of the painting group De Realisten in 1948. In the 1950s he received several assignments for applied art from the municipality of Amsterdam. In the same city he taught at the Rietveld Academy and at the Rijksakademie. The biggest surprise is his paintings: colorful self-portraits, still lifes, interiors, portraits and landscapes. He also liked to paint in the hilly surroundings of his holiday home near 's Gravenvoeren, just across the border near Maastricht. The bright colors of the work radiate sun-drenched joie de vivre.
  • Het werk van Theo Kurpershoek (1914-1998) is geliefd bij kenners, particuliere verzamelaars en kunstenaars en het is opgenomen in diverse museale collecties. Kurpershoek is vooral bekend als vormgever van de Salamander-reeks van Querido in de jaren '50, maar hij heeft nog veel meer gedaan. Hij was een virtuoos graficus. Hij was medeoprichter van schildersgroep De Realisten in 1948. In de jaren '50 kreeg hij verschillende opdrachten voor toegepaste kunst van de gemeente Amsterdam. In diezelfde stad was hij docent aan de Rietveldacademie en aan de Rijksakademie. De grootste verrassing vormen zijn schilderijen: kleurrijke zelfportretten, stillevens, interieurs, portretten en landschappen. Hij schilderde ook graag in de heuvelachtige omgeving van zijn vakantiehuis bij 's Gravenvoeren, net over de grens bij Maastricht. De heldere kleuren van het werk stralen zonovergoten levensvreugde uit.
