- Summary
- Playwright Horton Foote discusses his life and work, starting with his childhood in Wharton, Texas, which became the setting for many of his plays. He describes his early years as an actor, how encouragement from choreographer Agnes De Mille inspired him to become a writer, and tells how a short drama he wrote for television grew into the nine-play Orphans' home cycle. Foote compares working for the stage with writing for television and film, speaks of some of his influences and his experiences adapting other writers' work, and discusses specific elements in his plays, such as family, race, religion, and music.
