- Summary
- "The 2019 general elections marked a watershed in Nigeria's democratic consolidation trajectory. Not only were they the country's fifth successful consecutive elections, surpassing Huntington's two-consecutive elections 'rule' of democratic breakthrough, they were the first after the unprecedented alternation of power that saw the defeat of the ruling People's Democratic Party and incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan by the All Progressives Congress in 2014. The 2019 elections therefore, was a litmus test of Nigeria's democratic and electoral progression. Was 2014 a fluke, or did it signal a real shift in the democratic process toward a level playing field of free and fair elections? How are different institutions and agencies aiding or disrupting Nigeria's democratic process and progress? These are some of the critical questions that contributions in this volume attempt to answer from diverse disciplinary lenses."--Page 4 of cover
