Summary
"There were no more men" contains four narratives from the Karitiana oral tradition, told in the first part of the 1990s by three narrators who are recognized leaders of the group, knowledgeable about the mythology and history of the people. The myths of the sun and the moon were told by cacique Garcia, the male initiation ritual "Osiip" by Cizino, who is the last Karitiana shaman, and the final narrative, which portrays the reunion between the last two villages of the ethnic group, from where the title of the book "There were no more men" was taken away, was told by Barabadá. The narratives were recorded by the organizer, and then transcribed and translated with the help of speakers of the language. They record myths and events important to the people and should be read as part of their literature.-- online translation from publishers' site.
