"La espera prolongada is a book inspired by the photographic exhibition of the same name organized by El Colegio de la Frontera Norte and convened within the framework of the International Refugee Day on June 20, 2021. The exhibition included the work of 11 photographers from the Tijuana-San Diego border region, who capture, between anguish and hope, the faces of migrant people while awaiting the answer to their asylum request. The images offer testimonies that bring us closer to their intimacy, allowing us to glimpse the difficulty of their path, their frustration with the process, but always with the confidence of achieving their purpose, showing how despite the difficulties and uncertainties faced by thousands of migrants, there is still place for smiles, solidarity, tenderness and love. In addition to this photographic legacy, an introduction and chapters on recent changes in the migratory phenomenon in Mexico are included, as well as the link between academic work and photography. In the final section, the photographers share their reflections on their work as photojournalists in the face of the search for asylum and refuge for so many people. We hope that this work contributes to the construction of a more sensitive and humane perception of migration in this border region."--Translated from back cover.
