Summary
Tells the story of Harriet Powell, a young enslaved woman of mixed race, who, with the aid of the Underground Railraod (in the person of Tom Leonard, a free Black man), slips out of the hotel in Syracuse, New York, takes shelter in Gerrit Smith's attic, and talks with Elizabeth Cady (a cousin of Smith's) about women's rights, while they wait for night and the next stage of the escape to Canada.
