Summary

The annual Joseph Maharam Foundation Awards for Theater Design are presented to the winners for the 1980-1 season. Mr. Maharam delivers a brief speech, and Mel Gussow presents the awards. Manuel Lutgenhorst and Douglas E. Ball are recognized for their work in the drama Request concert, John Lee Beatty (set designer) and Dennis Parichy (lighting designer) are given awards for their work on Lanford Wilson's 5th of July, and Patricia McGourty is awarded for her costume designs for the Public Theater's revival of Pirates of Penzance. After the awards are presented, the winners discuss their careers, and their experiences on current projects. Panelists also take questions from members of the audience.
