Summary

The catalogue entitled "Religiosidad Popular" is made up of an introductory essay that gives an account of the research work carried out for more than a year as a result of the FONDART project awarded in 2017, to work on the collection of popular religiosity MAPA. To this are added four investigations, the first three of a historiographical nature, focused on typologies and geographical areas grouped based on the importance and representativeness that these pieces have within the collection -Mexican and Brazilian votive offerings, material representations of Andean and Chilean popular devotion- and the last, focused on their careful material study, particularly on the case of the altarpieces, where the museum's restoration and conservation team diagnoses, analyzes and presents intervention proposals, managing to unravel issues related to the material history of these pieces, their past interventions and the implications that the application of different conservation measures would have. The book reproduces the complete collection of popular religiosity, ranging from popular imagery to images of devotion inserted in unconventional supports such as glass bottles, altarpieces, masks, votive offerings, nativity scenes, figures of saints and advocations.
