Description
1 videocassette (VHS) (106 min.) : sound, color; 1/2 in.
Summary
Panel discussion devoted to the current Broadway production of Bernard Pomerance's drama The elephant man. The play, first staged in London, was based on the life of Joseph Merrick (1862-1890), a severely deformed man. Producer Elizabeth McCann tells how her colleague Richmond Crinkley brought the play to her attention. She in turn staged the drama Off-Broadway, then moved it to Broadway. The production's press agent Josh Ellis discusses the challenges involved in advertising the show; production manager Brent Peek talks about his work behind the scenes. The panelists examine related matters, such as rising ticket costs and the pros and cons of advertising stage productions on television. Panelists also take questions from members of the audience.
