- Summary
- Encruzilhadaʺ displays African and Afro-Brazilian works at MAM in Bahia. Bringing together several visual artists, there are more than 150 modern and contemporary works and more than 250 traditional works. Dedicated to Exu, the exhibition offers a journey through the crossroads of this orixá, messenger between heaven and earth, and through black-African ancestry and images. The argumentative path of the text was based on the visit to the exhibition, the exhibition catalogue and the dialogue with researchers for a critical reading about the political and fabulous power of the image and artistic works. In order to deal with the exuistic transit between worlds that the exhibition invites to participate, I propose a reflection on the way in which the notion of "crossroads-of-images" operates, which, like Exu, oscillates between rule and deviation, in dialogue with the aesthetic and political regime of art and its inventive way of constituting scenes of dissent and "counter-history".
