  • The main vol. consists of text ([4] leaves), excerpted from Johnson's natural history by S.G. Goodrich, and 8 etchings on handmade green Japanese paper. The portfolio, entitled "Prints," contains hand-colored, numbered and signed prints of the same etchings found in the main vol. (except for the frontispiece)--and a signed ink and watercolor drawing of the head of the hawksbill turtle.
  • "Cheloniidae was designed by Alan James Robinson. The text was set in Centaur and Arrighi by Mackenzie Harris of San Francisco, California. Additional hand composition was completed by Arthur Larson. Forty-one copies of this book were printed at Cheloniidae Press in Easthampton, Massachusetts in the spring of 1987. Robinson made the etchings and the wood engravings especially for this editon. The twenty-six full cloth portfolios were executed by Claudia Cohen. Daniel E. Kelm of the Wide Awake Garage designed and bound the fifteen deluxe editions. Peter Geraty & LInda Lembke produced the tray-cases. The wax sculpture of a sea turtle was made by Alan and cast in paper made by Sara Krohn of the Paper Route. Greta Lintvedt printed the seven etchings at the Press on Rives BFK and on a handmade Japanese paper, Moriki. Alan water-colored the extra suite of etchings. All those who had a hand in the making of the book & the portfolio work in shops at One Cottage Street, Easthampton, Massachusetts. Cheloniidae is the family name for sea turtles. This portfolio depicts the generally recognized species of sea turtles; Green Turtle, Hawksbill Turtle, and Pacific Ridley Turtle. Johnson's Natural History, illustrating and describing the Animal Kingdom, with its wonder and curiosities, from man, through all the divisions, classes, and orders, to the Animalculae in a drop of water; Volume II, by S.G.
