Summary

• This collection was primarly compiled by theatre journalist and collector Harold Seton, and later acquired and added to by Philip Kaplan. It contains approximately 3,294 cabinet photographs and carte de visites of notable 19th- and early 20th-century actors, dancers, and other stage personalities. Most images are publicity photographs of personalities in portraits or in costume for roles, also includes some photographic promotional postcards. Of note are several dozen images of male and female impersonators.
• Also includes three rare books: La Reference des portraits contemporains, Paris, 1899 (2 vols); Bound keysheets of actors Houseworth's celebrities, undated; Bound keysheets of actors and other subjects.
