Summary
Streaming file, April 18, 2021 (approximately 22 minutes). Kara Brody speaks with Hanna Swartz about her academic and professional background and current activities including her work with Lucky Plush Productions, Khecari, and The Cambrians in Chicago (Illinois); the initial and longer-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on her and her dance community; her move from Chicago to Washington State in August [2020] including how the Seattle dance community differs from that of Chicago; how she personally has responded to pandemic-imposed restrictions including some of her struggles as well as the feeling that she is coming through this "pretty privileged" and still "'pretty sane and connected with [her] body"; trying to use her space on social media in a way that supports social justice including with respect to the homeless population in Seattle and the Black Lives Matter movement; how the recent increase in targeted attacks of Asians has affected her and her practice; some of the factors contributing to how she feels about creating work right now; how the reduction in time spent dancing over the last year or so has affected her body; how impressed she is by the resilience the arts community has shown in the face of the pandemic.
