- Summary
- "The poem Unending Love by Rabindranath Tagore, written in 1890 and translated by the English poet William Radice, was chosen by Anne Vilsbøll to compliment the historic Kamasutra images she drew for this book. Khela in Bengali means play which in this edition refers to lovers, their perfection of union and loss through separation, as well as the in between one cannot truly grasp, which remains a nourishment for all art creation and a mystery. Anne Vilsbøll, in collaboration with Susan Gosin, developed the concept for the book. The Rajasthan jali patterns used as a design element were photographed by Anne Vilsbøll in Udaipur. The book has a female and a male version for each of the couples consisting of three translucent and opaque pages which when overlaid reunite the figures visually. By turning the pages, the couples are revealed in separation and in union, resulting in a continuous play of the female and male principle. Udaipur artist Zenul Khan and his team hand painted the miniature paintings on custom made abaca / cotton paper produced by Susan Gosin. Aditi Babel contributed to the design of the book, the Bengali and English calligraphy, and fabricated the jali pattern for the box. All paper was designed by Susan Gosin and produced at Dieu Donne Papermill with the help of Tatiana Ginsberg and Amy Jacobs. Peter Kruty Editions typeset the text in Textile and applied the gold leaf. Sayre Gaydos and Peter Kruty designed and printed letterpress the text on cotton paper and the female and male figures on translucent abaca paper. Peter Kruty fabricated the covers. Beth Sheehan produced the boxes for this edition." -- From colophon sheet in envelope
