Note
  • "The Dresden Manuscript consists of six volumes of which the sixth is labelled Weissische Partien / wozu noch 3 Vol. Accompag. Gehören (Partitas by Weiss with 3 volumes of accompaniments). The 'Partien' are numbered 1 to 9 of which Nr. 7 consists of empty pages. One of them--the only one to be complete with four string parts--is a Concerto in c minor by Silvius Leopold's brother Johann Sigismund Weiss. The other seven are luteparts to ensemble compositions of Silvius Leopold Weiss. Four of these Partien are labelled as lute duos, with three of them bearing a pencil remark stating that the missing lute part can also be found in an arrangement for harpsichord. In contrast to the sonatas for lute solo they all have four movements with titles that refer to the tempo or mood (no dance movements) thus following the form of the sonata da chiesa. These four Partien are the subject of this recording"--Program notes, p. 10.
