Summary

The meeting entitled "Necropolitics, militarization and cried lives" bought together a group of artists, curators, philosophers, psychoanalysts and academics with the purpose of debating in public and creating collective ideas in a series of ways to establish a criticism on violence and its relation with art, through contemporary forms of subjugation of life to the power of death (necropolitics), a phenomena that generates politics of exclusion, domination, classification and the production of "disposable lives", a concept defined by philosopher Judith Butler as lives "not worthy to be cried upon" (Our translation) --P. 7. Along with the texts, this publication includes two artistic interventions: Enrique Jezik presents graphic work "Frase, 2011-12" that explores violence from a symbolic aspect through a language and performance that incites and invokes, and one DVD with the video "No reconciliados (nadie sabe lo que un cuerpo puede)" by Marcelo Expósito, filmed in Argentina in 2009. The short film (127 min.) is a free adaptation of the theater play Hamlet/Maschine (Hamlet/Machine) by German dramaturge Heiner Müller.
