Summary
Catalogue comprising fifty paintings including renaissance, mannerist, baroque and neo-classic styles of women represented in the paradigmatic topics established in a men dominated world: maternity, classic beauty and sensuality. The museographic script explores how the perception of the "feminine" has changed throughout the history of art, from the "men dependent" stereotype representations to the creations of contemporary and independent women artists. The exhibition concludes with several installations by contemporary women artists including Betsabeé Romero, Teresa Margolles and Marta Palau amongst others. "The exhibition presents masterpieces from the holdings of the INBA, of INAH and from private collections, which in many cases were never before exhibited. It is important to highlight the "Retrato de Marevna" (Portrait of Marevna, 1919) a painting by Amadeo Modigliani, a piece never before seen in Mexico. The same case is the painting "Retrato de Niña Desconocida" (Portrait of Unknown Child, ca.1800) by Francisco de Goya." (Our Translation) --Page [4].
