Summary
Media artist Vincent Meessen (b. Baltimore 1971, lives and works in Brussels, Belgium) revives post-colonial histories as the main topic of the intellectual and cultural process of modernity. The inspiration for his art project was the cover of French magazine París Match in June of 1955, the same image that motivated Roland Barthes in the creation of his critical post-colonial concepts for "Mythologies" (1957): and African child soldier (Congo) saluting the French flag. Through films, texts, interventions, photographs, objects and diagrams, Meessen has developed a poetical and contemporary perception of how the legacy of colonialism continues today in different shapes and forms.
