- Summary
- Breaking, a dance form that started back in the 70s in the Bronx, New York finds its way in the streets of Mumbai. It is appropriated by the youth of the city and has molded itself to fit into their everyday lives. The film looks at how Breaking becomes a site of expression of subaltern youth cultures in the city of Mumbai. The film also foregrounds the question of and critically reflects on, who the city belongs to and who can stake claim to the city space. While exploring the relationship of the charaters with the city, the film dwells on the question of how space is contested and avenues for leisure in Mumbai. Through the personal lives of 21 year old Gani , 18 year old Aman and their friends, the film tries to understand the dynamics of breaking, what breaking means to them and how it becomes the mode of their self-expression.
