Summary
  • In recent years, much research has been done on the specific symptoms of post-traumatic stress. Recently, some researchers have begun to investigate how the experiences and stories of people suffering from post-traumatic stress affect their partners and children, their friends and caregivers (therapists, doctors, social workers, etc.). It seems that specialists who work with traumatized people can be affected by their stories and experiences in a way that threatens both their professional activity and their quality of personal life. Thus, concepts such as secondary traumatic stress, vicarious trauma, burnout syndrome and compassionate fatigue syndrome were studied.Secondary traumatic stress is a set of symptoms that may occur as a result of indirect traumatic exposure, the symptoms being similar to those of people who have experienced a traumatic event (for example: avoidance, intrusive thoughts, alertness, etc.).
