- Summary
- Replacing the wooden spokes of the wheel with thin tension-wires was one of the most efficient constructions ever created. This book brings together a multiplicity of illustrative, and in some cases also curious, examples from two centuries of water wheels, Ferris wheels, airplanes and dirigibles, bridges and roof constructions. Some of the largest open (support-less, girderless) spaces in the world are based on the principle of the wire-spoked wheel.
