- Summary
- The main purpose of this publication is a comprehensive presentation of the Baroque era art in Silesia.0The book includes all those artists known from preserved works, the contemporary painters who were active in Silesia or worked for local clients. Also included are all of the works made for Silesian audiences in various techniques and genres: from painting on glass and porcelain, through easel painting and array oil paintings and paintings on empor balustrades and ceilings, to monumental fresco decorations on the walls and vaults. The study covers artists and works from the present areas of both Polish and Czech Silesia, because the territorial scope of the material included in this book determined the historical boundaries of this region from the Habsburg era. In turn, the time frame for the presentation of Baroque painting in Silesia was adopted, guided primarily by stylistic criteria, not the dates of historical events.0Therefore, the beginning of the forty-seventeenth century became the initial border, when - despite the last Thirty Years' War - the first works based on baroque patterns began to appear in Silesia. In turn, the final caesura occurred in the years 1770-1800, in which - despite the final disappearance of the greater part of Silesia from the Habsburg monarchy under the provisions of the Treaty of Peace in Hubertusburg from 1763 - the baroque and rococo style was slowly decayed.
