Summary
The employees of the Archaeological Museum of Istria in Pula participated in numerous excavations and surveys on the Istrian Peninsula during the more than the century-long existence of this institution. Most of the materials that were discovered are kept in the Museum depot, while only a smaller part is on display. The large quantity of archaeological materials unearthed in the course of these explorations eventually led to the creation of the Modern Era Collection in 2010. The Archaeological Museum of Istria thus became the first archaeological museum in Croatia to include a Modern Era Collection. The exhibition "Istria, the lion and the eagle" features a variety of archaeological material traces made of stone, ceramics, glass, wood, bone and metal, as well as those on mortar (wall paintings), which have never been shown to date. The aim of this exhibition and catalogue is to give a thorough presentation of the historical period from the 14th to the end of the 18th century. Most of the Istrian Peninsula was ruled by the Venetian Republic during that period, and only a smaller part by the House of Austria.00Exhibition: Archaeological Museum of Istria, Pula, Croatia.
